Verified, both sides — without blocking the marketplace.
Rentcaar runs an open marketplace with two layers of optional verification: a "Verified Car" badge for hosts, and Stripe Identity for renters. Either side can request the other verify before a match becomes a booking — but neither is a gate to listing or browsing.
For hosts — the Verified Car badge
Upload two documents to your listing and our admin team reviews them:
- ✓Certificate of Inspection (COI) — confirms your car is roadworthy. Issued by an authorised inspection station; renewed annually.
- ✓Class 4 Compulsory Third Party Insurance — required to operate as a peer-to-peer rental in Australia. Different from a standard private CTP.
Both expire — we scan nightly and pull the badge the day either lapses (with email notice). Re-upload renewals through your host dashboard to bring it back. The listing itself stays up; only the badge disappears.
For renters — identity verification
Two ways to verify on the renter side:
- ✓Stripe Identity — hosted licence + selfie check that returns in minutes. A host can request this before accepting your match.
- ✓Document upload — driver licence + payment method, manually reviewed by admin (usually under 24 hours). Unlocks bookings without per-match identity prompts.
Optional bonus: add your TMR Traffic History (Queensland Department of Transport & Main Roads) to earn a standing 2% discount on every weekly charge, for as long as your record stays clean.
Verification is optional, but matching isn't blind
Hosts and renters can match before either side has verified. At any point in the match flow, either side can pause and request the other to verify first — the match sits in a "needs verification" state until they do. Once verification clears (Stripe Identity webhook for renters; admin doc approval for hosts), the match returns to pending and the responder can accept.
